Cryptids and Folklore
Documenting the undocumented. These institutions preserve the physical traces of mythological beasts, local legends, and the enduring human hope that monsters are real.
International Cryptozoology Museum
Founded by Loren Coleman, a leading figure in the field of cryptozoology, this museum offers an exhaustive look at hidden animals. From hair samples purported to be from Sasquatch to full-scale models of the Mothman.
The Curator's Approach
The museum operates on the principle that many "mythical" beasts (like the coelacanth or the okapi) were once considered fables before scientific verification. The collection is treated as an active research archive.
The Loch Ness Centre
Situated in the old Drumnadrochit Hotel, where the modern phenomenon of the Loch Ness Monster began in 1933. It balances the lore of 'Nessie' with deep geological and environmental science regarding the loch itself.
Highlights sonar explorations (Operation Deepscan) and environmental DNA studies that attempted to catalogue all biological life within the deep waters.
Displays archival newspaper clippings, hoax photographs (including the famous Surgeon's Photograph), and historical eyewitness accounts.
