Visitor Inquiries
Guidance on navigating the odd, the obscure, and the highly specific exhibits catalogued within our directory.
Are these museums suitable for children?
It varies drastically by taxonomy. Obsolete Technology is generally universal, whereas Medical Oddities (such as the Mütter Museum) often possess age restrictions or require strong stomachs. We recommend reviewing the specific institution's policy before planning your itinerary.
How frequently is the directory updated?
Our archivists review and update stat strips (hours, fees, locations) on a quarterly basis. However, as many of these are niche, privately-owned collections, sudden closures do occur. Always confirm directly via the museum's own portal.
Do you arrange guided tours?
We do not operate as a travel agency. We provide the academic directory and the itinerary generation tool for independent scholars and travelers to orchestrate their own expeditions.
Can I submit a museum for inclusion?
Yes. Submissions can be sent via our Contact page. The institution must have a physical location (no purely digital collections) and must exhibit a sustained, serious dedication to a bizarre or highly niche subject matter.
Why is there no photography permitted in some locations?
Many medical and human remains exhibits operate under strict ethical guidelines (such as the Human Tissue Act in the UK) requiring dignity and respect for the subjects, precluding casual photography.
